Anaheim Convention Center Prepares for Reopening with GBAC Accreditation
Anaheim Convention Center to Become Largest Exhibition Facility on the West Coast to Receive Gold Standard Certification for Prepared Facilities
ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 27, 2020) ― Visit Anaheim, the official destination organization for Anaheim, today announced its plan for the Anaheim Convention Center to become the largest exhibition facility on the West Coast to receive the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR accreditation. Designed to create a healthy environment for meeting and convention attendees, the GBAC Star is the gold standard for prepared facilities and the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation.
As Visit Anaheim looks ahead to recovery, this new certificate program will support the organization’s efforts to safely resume face-to-face events and assuage attendee concerns. In the wake of COVID-19, the GBAC STAR program is designed to train convention center staff on how to prepare for, respond to and recover from infectious diseases and biohazards.
“Earning this accreditation is one of many proactive steps our organization and the City’s convention center have taken to ensure our meeting venues are ready to safely reopen and welcome back visitors,” said Jay Burress, president & CEO, Visit Anaheim. “Health and safety remain our top priority in Anaheim and we want to ensure our convention center is certified to handle outbreak and infectious disease preparation and response.”
Created by a group of leaders from top-tier health organizations, GBAC STAR helps organizations establish protocols and procedures, offers expert-led training and assesses a facility’s preparedness for biorisk situations. The program ensures facilities use best practices to limit future outbreaks, empowers cleaning staff to do their jobs safety and effectively and gives customers greater peace of mind.
In pursuit of the GBAC Star accreditation, the Anaheim Convention Center will complete 20 program elements with specific performance and guidance criteria. Receiving this certification means that a facility has:
- Established and maintained a cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention program to minimize risks associated with infectious agents like the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).
- The proper cleaning protocols, disinfection techniques, and work practices in place to combat biohazards and infectious disease.
- Highly skilled cleaning professionals who are trained for outbreak and infectious disease preparation and response.
