It’s a milestone year for the Anaheim Ducks. Founded 25 years ago as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, the National Hockey League team is taking fans on a nostalgic trek through time for the 2018-19 season.

The season kicks off Oct. 8 with home opener that pays tribute to the Ducks’ inaugural game played on the same date in 1993. The team takes on the Detroit Red Wings again in a high-stakes rematch, hoping this time to come out the victor after losing 25 years ago with a final score of 7-2.

As the team takes the ice, they’ll be wearing a familiar set of colors. A special anniversary jersey brings back the iconic Mighty Ducks crest, along with the original eggplant, jade and black striping. The throwback jersey will be worn for 14 home games, including the opener.

The Oct. 8 game is one of nine planned Jersey Tribute Nights in celebration of the 25th anniversary season. At each of these games, the current team will warm up on the ice in the historical jersey. Expect special appearances by Ducks alumni during the era the featured jersey was worn, plus retrospective displays, fan photo ops and interactive elements throughout the evening.

As for the team roster, captain Ryan Getzlaf leads a promising team of all-star veterans and young talent primed to fill a few potential roster vacancies early in the season. Fan favorites Ryan Kesler and Patrick Eaves have made progress in their recoveries from off-season injuries, making appearances at the team’s training camp this September. They have not been cleared to play yet, but stay tuned for developments further into the season.
