Life Drawing Classes (5 Classes)
Lee Smith is a freelance artist with a BFA in painting and an MFA in sequential art and storyboarding. He has done work for small independent movies and short films and comics publishers and has self-published several books of drawings and paintings. He worked for many years as a portrait artist for Disney and as a scenic artist for musicals in Southern Ca. Students in this course will acquire basic skills and techniques for life drawing, including gesture, proportion, anatomy, foreshortening, light, and shade. Artists of all skill levels and experience are welcome. In conjunction with the Marvelocity exhibit at the Muzeo we will be emphasizing life drawing for the comic artist. If you look at most of the classic costumes of Marvel characters, they tend to stick to the basic form of the human body, with coloring and designs that follow and accentuate the form. Skills gained from life drawing allow artists to get the lifelike results they want when using photos and their imagination and memory for reference.
