Ski & Surf in the Same Day!
There are several mountain communities within about a 90-minute drive from the Anaheim area.
With an elevation of 7,000 feet, Big Bear Lake has four distinct seasons, each of which provides for year-round activities from fishing, boating, to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Winter skiing is especially popular at Big Bear as it can receive significant amounts of snow in the winter.
Lake Arrowhead is also a great place to find hiking trails, pine and cedar forests and a picturesque mountain lake. Lake Arrowhead village is a bustling mountain town with lots of shops and restaurants. The lake itself is at 5,100 feet elevation and is nestled in a forest of pine, cedar and dogwood. And of course there is lots of boating and fishing fun here as well.
Another nearby quieter mountain retreat community is Idyllwild, a small town in the San Jacinto Mountains. The elevation of Idyllwild is 6,800 feet and is a favorite destination all year long. Hiking and bicycling trails are also plentiful in this region.
Idyllwild has resorts and hotels along with many restaurants, shopping and unique boutiques. The annual Jazz in the Pines concert in Idyllwild happens each summer and is worth the drive.
