    The goal of this position is to increase Visit Anaheim’s market share of domestic and international leisure travel working in a strong team environment and driving tourism initiatives, developing partnerships, and implementing strategies to target key feeder markets. 

    The responsibilities of this job include planning and implementing innovative consumer initiatives and trade efforts and positioning Anaheim and Garden Grove hotels as the base of stay to maximize the use of partner lodging facilities, attractions, transportation companies, shopping, dining, cultural and sport venues.

    The Manager, Tourism Development reports to the Vice President, Tourism & Partnership.


    Primary Duties and Responsibilities


    Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

    Essential Functions:

    1. Drive overnight stays and extend length of stay in Anaheim and Orange County by developing consumer and travel trade programs to grow awareness and increase demand from strategic domestic accounts and key international markets  
    2. Position the destination as the ideal Southern California base of stay by highlighting the key attributes of the destination in the consumer and trade markets.  
    3. Initiate co-op sales and marketing opportunities with key airline and trade partners to launch consumer promotions, generate demand to area hotels, and traffic to our online resources.
    4. Develop co-op campaigns and opportunities with key domestic and or international partners for in-market activations integrating TID hotels to generate demand and help during off-season.
    5. Develop a plan to educate, engage and incentivize Travel Trade Professionals in all key markets by promoting the Online Training Program, webinars, content and destination assets.
    6. Develop a comprehensive program to target the Receptive Tour Operators with hotel participation, content ideas, destination assets, and the direct participation in RTO events.
    7. Prospect, pitch and develop destination promotions to secure business opportunities that benefit the destination in off-season in collaboration with traditional and non-traditional partners.
    8. Focus on the domestic and current international markets by creating and executing innovative, cost effective sales efforts, programs, and events to strengthen brand awareness and presence to help partners reach their goals by becoming an extension of their sales team.  
    9. Leverage existing assets and alliances to expand and develop educational resources and online tools to increase booking conversions and deliver the destination message to a broader audience.  
    10. Identify new tools by collaborating with the Marketing and Communications teams to design and produce customized collateral materials, online resources, web content, etc.
    11. Define strategic itineraries for educational (FAM) tours to provide firsthand destination experiences for domestic and international tier-one clients.
    12. Work with Communications staff in key initiatives throughout the year.
    13. Provide periodic destination updates to tier-one clients and keep them updated about new developments and resources.
    14. Attend conferences, product launches, and partner events as needed.
    15. Prospect, identify and provide leads and referrals to partners.
    16. Experience with developing and maintain budgets for market specific programs including but not limited to sales missions, fam tours, and special projects. 
    17. Complete and submit expense reports, metrics, trip reports, and other administrative duties as needed.
    18. Support other members of the Tourism Development Team with special projects.
    19. Experience in delivering public presentations on the visitor industry in Anaheim and Orange County to travel professionals, partners, community groups, schools and colleges.
    20. Perform all other duties as assigned.

    The extent to which an error in judgment on the job would result in loss of time, expense or public/employee goodwill. Most projects that are processed are on a strict deadline.Errors in judgment would significantly impact smooth office operations and would result in loss of favorable relations with bureau members and the travel trade.

    E. Contacts – Internal and Public

    Frequent contact with those individuals inside and outside of the organization.  A friendly, outgoing personality is required for smooth department operations.  This type of personality is especially important for telephone calls - both incoming and outgoing.

    A. Working Conditions

    Cubicle/desk with basic office equipment, no natural lighting in work area, high traffic works areas and corridors.

    Specifications


    1. Education
      Required: 2-year college degree.
      Preferred: 4-year college degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Hospitality/Tourism, Public Relations, or international languages/culture.
    2. Experience
      Required: 3-6 years sales or marketing experience in a related industry.
      Preferred: 7-9 years sales or marketing experience in the hospitality or tourism industry.
    3. Abilities
      Required: Excellent communication skills, oral and written, presentations and business correspondence, ability to perform multiple tasks and simultaneous projects and sales accounts, with a high level of professionalism.
      Preferred: Computer knowledge (software programs - Simpleview, Excel, Microsoft Office, TEAMS and GoTo), knowledge of key markets, and related industry associations and trade shows and meetings.
      Fluency in second language.

    Primary objectives include selling and securing events for groups of 999 guest rooms or less utilizing the Anaheim Convention Center, thereby increasing Anaheim's market share of meetings business, generating occupancy and tourism tax revenues for the city of Anaheim.

    Develop new business leads and accounts for the Convention Sales Team.


    Primary Duties and Responsibilities


    Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

    Essential Functions:

    Convention Sales:

    1. Respond to leads requiring convention center space for groups of 999 on peak or less, within ACC Booking Guidelines.
    2. Responsible for maintenance and coordination of existing files/accounts and ensuring all accounts, customer information and sales activities are entered into Sales Database.
    3. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their expectations are met and exceeded throughout the sales process.
    4. Create proposals, secure convention center space, communicate with hotels to secure room blocks, execute site visits and confirm business to achieve assigned sales booking goals.
    5. Primary contact for hotel Sales Managers to check convention center space availability for groups of 999 on peak or less. Ensure ACC availability and pricing is correctly represented directly to client to secure business within ACC space guidelines.
    6. For all opportunities outside of sales guidelines, request space approval from VP Convention Sales prior to offering availability to Visit Anaheim clients or hotel sales managers.
    7. Collaborate with Destination Services Manager on seamless client turnover and site inspections to showcase ACC and Visit Anaheim Partners.

    Business Development:

    1. A minimum of 25% of time should be spent researching and developing new business opportunities for the Convention Sales Team utilizing SimpleView, MINT and other industry resources.
    2. Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential convention clients, market trends and competitor activities.
    3. Generate leads, prospects, and new accounts to support the Convention Sales Directors in achieving or surpassing the designated goals for both this role and the annual Convention Sales Team goals.
    4. Responsible for producing monthly reports, participation in conference calls, review of leads and bookings as assigned by supervisor. Management of assigned budgets and submission of expense reports accurately and timely.
    5. Performs other duties as assigned.
