It's no accident that Anaheim is Orange County's craft beer capital, the first brewery opened in 1870! One of my favorite things about being based in San Francisco is the short flight proximity to so many different adventures!
A 90-minute flight in any direction can transport you to the welcoming waters of sunny SoCal, the earthy green forests of Oregon or the dry, deep deserts of Nevada, on any given weekend. Anaheim had been on my west coast bucket list for quite some time to check out the original Disneyland, but when I finally made it down south to visit my friend AP this Thanksgiving, little did I know how much else there would be to explore.
With just a few days left to lock down your plans for New Year's Eve— here's a roundup of the top events happening across Orange County.
In 1857, German vintners, actors, and poets left San Francisco after the gold rush to pursue a better life, landing in Anaheim. A rich viticulture grew Orange County’s first city, which by 1880 had a downtown area full of saloons, breweries, and picnic-friendly parks surrounded by vineyards.
A hundred and thirty years later, the city would be part of a different gold rush, this time at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival.
When you say the word “Anaheim” a few things come to mind: theme parks, professional sports, or perhaps the biggest convention center on the west coast. However, behind all this hustle and bustle lies another industry that predates them all: beer.
It’s that time again, were we take a crash course through a town and see the sounds, taste the sights, and enjoy the flavors of another city. This time, we’ve assembled a team (a squad?) and spent 48 hours in Anaheim, CA. Even better, we got Visit Anaheim to hook us up this time on our itinerary. We recruited a makeup artist, an Air Force mechanic, an accountant, and a handsome drifter (yours truly) for a broad set of opinions and interests and proceeded to lay waste to Southern California’s most overlooked destination.
