Located adjacent to the lobby inside Hotel Menage, American Tavern Eatery & Drink is the ideal stop for an after-work wind down during Happy Hour or as a family-friendly meal after a dip in the hotel'€™s pool. Whether dining during a family vacation or as with a group of local friends, this American gastro pub offers eclectic fare, craft beer and boutique wines for all appetites. "  " "
Price range: American Tavern offers great food at affordable, family-friendly prices. Snacks (small appetizers) range from $3.95 to $8.95, Share Plates (appetizers for sharing) are between $7.95 and $15.95 and soups and salads are available for as low as $3.95 for a cup of soup and range to $10.95 for a large salad. Entrées are divided into three categories: Small Plates ($3.95 to $12.95), Large Plates ($8.95 to $20.95) and Breads and Buns ($7.95 to $10.95). Everything on the Happy Hour menu, including appetizers and cocktails are $5. "
Type of food: As the name suggests, American Tavern offers a modern twist on traditional American dishes that demonstrates the diversity and flavor of our country'€™s cuisine. Fresh ingredients like arugula and heirloom tomatoes marry together to create creamy, flavorful soups and garden-fresh salads, while sweet potato fries, chicken schnitzel and braised beef short breads reveal more robust and complex flavor profiles. Renewed preparations of seafood, burgers and tacos also offer palatable options for diners. An eclectic and extensive list of craft beers, wine and specialty cocktails complement this fabulous fare. "  "  "
Atmosphere/attire: This American gastropub is simple, yet dynamic in style. Hip décor resembles a hole-in-the-wall joint that locals would frequent in downtown urban regions, yet without the lengthy waits or shady characters. Glass mason jars are nestled in wooden crates, while a mahogany baby grand piano sits in the corner, awaiting its next song. Casual attire amongst diners is most common, while business (or after-work) wear is also welcome."
Service/efficiency: Though I'€™ve only been to American Tavern during the week, I have never had to wait to be seated or make reservations ahead of time. The service has always been outstanding, thanks to a team of knowledgeable and efficient servers. "
Best time to go: Weekdays are least busy, though the restaurant seems to always have tables available. The best time to go is definitely any day between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m, when Happy Hour deals are offered."
Kid friendly? Definitely. American Tavern'€™s low-maintenance atmosphere and a broad selection of food are perfect for families with kids of all ages."
Address: Located inside Hotel Menage, 1221 South Harbor Blvd, Anaheim.
Recommended eats: If you'€™re there during Happy Hour, be sure to order the nachos and a Spiked Pink Lemonade or Pomatini. The dynamic Spiced BBQ Meatballs, classic Sweet Potato Fries and creamy Tomato-Basil Bisque are divine for small appetites or as added sides. For your main course, be sure to try the '€œMessy'€ Smoked Bacon & Cheddar Ale Burger, which is mouth-wateringly delicious and perfect for sharing! "
Blogger'€™s tips:"
  • Parking is available for two hours for no charge, but only in designated spots that are located to the left of Hotel Menage'€™s main entrance. Valet parking is also available for an additional charge (I don'€™t suggest this, as the dining-only spots are close enough to the entrance).
  • The menu'€™s diverse and plentiful options can be a bit overwhelming at first. Be sure to ask your server for suggestions based on your tastes. We did this and loved the suggested menu items!"
  • For an additional experience, head to Hotel Menage'€™s Palapa Bar & Lounge (located across the lobby from American Tavern) for an after-dinner cocktail or dessert for an ideal viewing of Disneyland Park'€™s fireworks spectacular. Be sure to check Disneyland'€™s website for show times and days. " "
