Did you know that the Anaheim Convention Center has an on-site composting unit and recycling center? How about that it has a vegetable and herb garden on it'€™s roof and has ownership of it'€™s own free-range grass-fed cows?" If being green is as important to you as it is to Anaheim, keep reading to find out how the Anaheim Convention Center continues to maintain sustainability daily."

The Anaheim Convention Center is the largest LEED-certified convention center in the United States. So, what is a '€œLEED'€ Certification? LEED is the USGBC'€™s (United States Green Building Council) rating system for designing, constructing and operating the world'€™s greenest and most energy efficient buildings. Only the most efficient buildings receive this certification, and gives them sustainability bragging rights.

Here are more ways that the Anaheim Convention Center leads the local community and changes the way meetings and conventions impact the environment.

Reuse and Recycle: The Anaheim Convention Center has an on-site recycling center with the latest equipment to recycle plastic, glass, office paper, used kitchen oils, discarded electronics and cardboard. This '€œGreen-Zone'€ also includes onsite composting for foods such as coffee grounds, egg shells, and table scraps and turns them into rich concentrated soil that acts as a perfect ingredient to enhance the convention center'€™s plants, flowers, and vegetable garden."

Sustainable food: Environmental Stewardship is a way of life at the Anaheim Convention Center'€™s partnering food company ARAMARK. Their eco-friendly menu includes delicious sustainable cuisine selections; the most notable is their ownership of sustainable cattle at Hearst Ranch. All utensils, cups and serving plates are biodegradable, food, wine, and cheese are purchased locally, and there is even a chef'€™s garden on the roof of the Anaheim Arena where fresh vegetables and herbs are grown."

Energy efficiency: Currently, the Anaheim Convention Center has enough solar power on the roof to support 23 Anaheim homes annually. There are plans to install an additional 1.5 megawatt rooftop solar array in 2012."

Through food sustainability, energy efficiency and effective recycling programs, the Anaheim Convention Center is truly a ringleader in green leadership. Want to learn more about all of Anaheim and Orange County'€™s green practices? Visit Anaheimoc.org/green for further information."
