ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA— Celebrate the 100th year of the MAKE Building (1917-2017), where “the old becomes new,” on Saturday, August 5th from 4-9PM! Festivities include live music, historical tours, artists-in-action demonstrations, a make & take craft station, backyard barbecue and good libations.

In 1917 the Crawford Family, famous for their Scottish orange marmalade recipe, established the Crawford Marmalade Factory, a production house that bottled thousands of jars of sweet citrus “gold” for generations. Fast forward 100 years— the old marmalade factory is now the MAKE Building. The newest addition to the Anaheim Packing District gastronomy has undergone a transformation by the LAB team in step with the revival of the adjacent historic Anaheim Packing House. The MAKE Building now houses modern-day makers: Unsung Brewery, Pali Wine Company, and soon-to-come Stone Groove Stillhouse and Jav’s BBQ.

“It’s exciting to see our country and the next generation passionate about the art of crafting again,” said Shaheen Sadeghi, owner and founder of LAB Holding. “The MAKE building, in the spirit of the original Crawford family cooking orange marmalade here, celebrates these modern ‘makers.’  We have restored this 1917 historical space to celebrate and educate about local taste makers, artisans and musicians. The garden is a place to connect people, share stories and have conversation. I see tremendous opportunities with these artisans and their entrepreneurial spirit and vision to create local products for the community.”

Late last year, Unsung Brewery opened their doors at the MAKE building, offering award-winning craft beers amidst a flurry of fictitious superhero décor. Pali Wine Company now adds to the MAKE mix by announcing their Grand Opening to coincide with the MAKE Centennial Celebration. Founded in 2005, Pali Wine Co. produces hand-crafted, premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in its winery, located in Lompoc - Santa Barbara County. Pali Wine Co. operates several other tasting rooms in downtown Santa Barbara, San Diego and Lompoc; however, the MAKE building proudly features the sole production facility within the tasting room. Customers in Anaheim will be able to sip wine amidst the production equipment and wine barrels, enjoying maker education alongside libations!

“We are very excited about the Tap Program here at our tasting room,” states Pali Wine Co. Winemaker, Aaron Walker. “The wines being served on tap are hand selected by our winemaking team and owners, and will rotate on a regular basis. The Tap program gives us the opportunity to offer wines that we otherwise would not be able to share. The kegs are filled directly from barrels at our winery. There is no fining or filtering involved - and only minimal SO2 additions. This results in wines that are younger and fresher.”

In addition to the spirits offered from the MAKE tasting rooms, guests will experience a sneak preview of Texas-sized, mouth-watering backyard barbecue from Jav’s BBQ, opening their first brick & mortar location at MAKE late 2017.

The Anaheim Historical Society offers 20-minute historical tours, and the Anaheim Halloween Parade will host an interactive “Make & Take” craft station. For dessert, citrus-infused cakes from Orange Clementine’s pop-up on the patio will be available for purchase. Local artists-in-action will demonstrate their creative process while melodic vintage vibes resonate throughout, performed by The Darden Sisters (6-8PM) and local Rockabilly legends, The Honeydrops (7:00-9:00PM).

Mayor Tom Tait will kick off the MAKE Centennial Celebration and Pali Wine Co. Grand Opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4PM.
